Fabric stores in West Jordan, Utah

A rare combination in one small area — the most inspiring sample-filled quilt shop in Utah, a big practical fabric store open until seven, and the factory that actually builds longarm frames.

Three very different stops in West Jordan

West Jordan is an unusually well-rounded stop, because its three entries do completely different jobs.

Pine Needles is the destination shop — set in historic Gardner Village, holding a rating near 4.6 stars across nearly two hundred reviews, and displaying more finished project samples than any other quilt shop in the state. It’s the place to go when you want ideas rather than yardage, and it covers cross-stitch and embroidery alongside quilting.

Fabric Center on Redwood Road is the practical counterpart: bigger, plainer, strong on minky, and — crucially — open until seven Monday to Saturday. Very few shops in the valley are still open when most people finish work, which makes this one genuinely useful in a way its shelves don’t fully explain.

And then there’s The Grace Company, which isn’t a shop so much as a manufacturer. They’ve been building quilting frames here for over thirty-five years and make the Qnique longarm machines. If you’re thinking seriously about a longarm, seeing one properly set up beats any amount of online research.

Making a day of it

Gardner Village is the natural anchor — restored historic buildings, shops and places to eat, so there’s something there for anyone you bring along who isn’t shopping for fabric. The other two are a short drive from it.

Nearby

Sandy, with its pair of Main Street shops, is about fifteen minutes east, and Riverton, Murray and Draper are all close. The full Salt Lake County list has everything in the valley.
