The Grace Company

The Grace Company is a different sort of entry on this list. It isn’t a quilt shop that happens to sell machines — it’s the manufacturer, and it has been making quilting frames here for more than thirty-five years. If you quilt on a frame, there is a fair chance it came from this building.

They were among the first to manufacture machine quilting frames at all, and they make both hand and machine versions. The Qnique longarm machines are theirs too, designed alongside the frames so the two work together rather than being bolted into a compromise. Their frames are also built to fit most major quilting machines, which matters if you already own a machine you love and simply want to put it on a frame.

For most people the reason to come here is to see a longarm setup in person before spending serious money on one. Buying a frame from photographs is a poor way to understand whether you can live with it. They’ve since added fabric and notions as well, so it isn’t a wasted trip if you’re browsing.

They’re not alone, either — Utah turns out to be a significant center of the quilting industry, with Handi Quilter building longarms twenty minutes away in North Salt Lake and Riley Blake designing fabric down in Lehi.

Two proper quilt shops are close by in West Jordan — Pine Needles at Gardner Village and the Fabric Center on Redwood Road.
