Fabric stores in Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City itself has just one fabric shop left — but a dozen more sit within half an hour, and knowing which suburb to drive to saves a wasted afternoon.

Where to buy fabric in Salt Lake City

Here’s the honest picture: if you live in Salt Lake City and want fabric, you will probably be driving out of it.

And Sew On on 3300 South is the one shop remaining inside the city — good fabric at fair prices, with patterns, notions and classes for all ages. It’s the sensible stop when you’re a couple of yards short and don’t want to make an expedition of it.

The gap here is recent. JOANN’s stores closed for good in 2025 when the chain liquidated nationally, taking the city’s main general fabric option with it, and we’ve removed those listings rather than leave you driving to an empty unit.

Where to go instead

The good news is that the valley is full of shops — they’re just in the suburbs.

A tip on timing

Almost everything in the valley closes at five or six and all day Sunday. The exceptions are worth memorising: Heartfelt in Sandy and Fabric Center in West Jordan both run until seven, and The Quilter’s Lodge until eight on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Often the quickest way to meet other quilters — and to hear about retreats and workshops that never get advertised.
