Harmony

Harmony occupies the Hannah Maria Libby Smith house on Center Street, built in 1878, and the setting is genuinely part of the experience — rooms rather than aisles, with fabric and yarn arranged through a character-filled old home. It has among the warmest review records of any shop in the state.

What sets it apart is what it stocks. Most Utah fabric shops are quilt shops first, which is lovely unless you want to make clothes. Harmony carries indie and vintage sewing patterns alongside proper apparel fabric, so if you’ve been ordering dress fabric online because nowhere local had any, this is the shop to know about. There’s quilting cotton too, plus yarn, ribbons, and a gift selection that runs to candles and mugs.

The result is a hybrid — part supply shop, part boutique — and it draws a slightly different crowd from the traditional quilt shops up the valley. Classes and workshops run for both sewing and knitting.

A note on the address: you’ll occasionally see 275 East Center listed elsewhere. The shop’s own address is 315 East Center Street. Dave’s Bernina is a few minutes west if you need a machine seen to while you’re in Provo.
